Question
Hello friends an health insurance agent is going to come my home this weekend. As a newbie to insurance, what questions shall i ask him while accepting for a policy detailedly? What are the precautions I should take before accepting a policy for me/my family? Shall i search any information about insurance?
Answer
Use the internet to do a little research about health insurance in general. I recommend the Insurance Information Institute's page on health insurance @ http://www.iii.org/individuals/healthinsurance/ Questions I would ask: Is the proposed plan an HMO, a PPO or a POS plan? (Have the agent explain what those abbreviations mean) Do I have to get permission to see a specialist? What is the penalty if I go out of network? What is the annual deductible? After I paid my deductible what percent of expenses are covered by the Company? and when does the company begin to pay 100%? Are diagnostic charges covered? if so, is there a separate annual limit? Are prescriptions covered? if so what is the copay? Is there a separate annual limit? Does the plan pay preventative benefits? Is maternity covered? Is mental health coverage included? Is chiropractic care covered? What hospitals are in the network? What physicians are in the network? If I have a preexisting condition how will the company treat this? What is the total lifetime benefit? $1,000,000 $2,000,000 $5,000,000? What is the maximum annual out of pocket? What hospitals are in network? What is the monthly premium? ... Permalink:
